I'm a believer in a kind of love that grows stronger over time and five years in, I feel that way more than ever.

Like the kind of guy that not only makes you believe anything is possible, but rolls up his sleeves and joins you on whatever the quest is.

I was born in Tennessee and raised in South Dakota, running barefoot on our acreage, walking the gravel roads at sunset, riding horses, building forts in the cotton woods and loving that feeling of dirt in my hands and the sun on my shoulders. A love for hard work, a wild imagination and a thriving appreciation for the purpose of beauty started there...

It's important to remember where we come from and to soak up the big days in our lives; to see them in their best light and for all that they're worth. Pictures have a way of putting our best priorities in place –

Maybe that's why I love my job so much. If I can seal those things in a time capsule of beautiful photographs for you to remember and look back on with tears in your eyes, then I'll count it a success, because around here, we believe love is worth waiting for, worth fighting for and worth celebrating.

But I'm not going to lie, I got a special one.

love. family. commitment.

GOOD FOOD

I almost went to culinary school, but I decided I'm actually pretty content cooking in my own kitchen and discovering new
hole-in-the-wall restaurants that blow my mind.

BEACHING

And yet here I am as far away from either coast as possible. So #lakelife it is.

SHOPPING

I could shop at boutiques all day long. Unless my spending fund is stretched thin, then I won't even look in the window because I know I'll see something I LITERALLY CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT.

Where are you supposed to put your phone when you're wearing a dress? What about your keys? Credit card? Hands?? ALL GIRLS WANT POCKETS.

PACKING

I pretty much hate it. Love to travel, hate to pack. I'm a master procrastinator when it comes to stuffing my luggage.

pINK

You'll hardly find it anywhere in my wardrobe, but if you do, it's a very particular shade of antique pink. What you will see a lot of? Mustard yellow. Not banana yellow, people. Mustard yellow.

LISTs

Some people need their coffee. I need my lists. We'll all be happier, just trust me on this one.

seven

pillows

Ben has counted the hours I'm taking off his life that he spends removing the piles of pillows I keep on our beds/couches/chairs.

I have a thousand dreams and the list just keeps growing with each one I take on. If I could, I'd own a boutique, learn how to draw and paint, publish music, study interior design, become a florist, run a kitchen, write a book and travel the world. But hey, maybe I will?

Right now my heart literally skips a beat when I pull up a new picture on my screen from your shoot and know it will bring you to tears because it captures YOUR dream. Yeah, I'm obsessed. (Basically, my goal is to make you cry.)

your life is a canvas

I call him my modern day Gilbert Blythe, because he still pronounces, "Sorry": "Sorey". If I'm going to be honest, he's more romantic than I am, braver, and smarter, too. If he's read it, he'll remember it (and he's been reading since he was three, so that's an awful lot of remembering).

He was born in Canada but now he's an American Soldier, serving in the Army National Guard, which means we spend more nights apart than we would like, but we also treasure the nights we get together more than we would have if we didn't know anything different.

Ben is also my FAVORITE second shooter. He brings me water, rounds the troops, moves furniture, keeps us on schedule, gets angles with his camera I didn't even think of, and gives me foot rubs. I think I'll keep him around.

CEDRIC

He turned three last October, but don't let his age deceive you. He hugs, shakes hands, fist bumps, high-fives and blows kisses like a regular pro. He also draws on the bottom of the toilet, puts on blush, stashes canned goods in his bedroom and says "Hi!" to every single passerby, with a courteous "Thank you, thank you!" to anyone kind enough to open the door.

Cedric means "Battle Chieftain" and Paul (his middle name) means "Humble". We love his endless energy and excitement, his theatrical enthusiasm for going outside ("oKAAAAY!!!") and the many other ways he keeps our hearts light in the middle of all of his mini catastrophes.

I catch his eye

We write letters

FIRST DATE

(Thanks, Facebook.) He adds me as a friend, sends me a message in response to a comment I made and we message back and forth a handful of times.

That's right, the old-fashioned pen and paper kind. Remember those? We decide we'll exchange them back and forth after he leaves for the Army on Valentine's Day. He writes me from his bunk via flashlight and we even squeeze in a phone call every now and then.

By now, we've covered all the deep stuff in our conversations and know we work on paper. But do we work in person? He comes back from Basic Training and we go on our first date as an "official couple".

We definitely work in person.

HE TALKS TO MY DAD

He drives from northern Minnesota to southern South Dakota "just to catch his cousins' New Years' Eve Party" a month or two after we've become friends on Facebook. I know better. He knows better. We all know better after he asks to meet my dad for breakfast on New Years' Day.

WE MeET

DOESN'T NOTICE ME

He's 12, and I'm only 9, but God is already weaving our paths together.

I start carpooling with my one of my best friends to help at her family's church every summer. Turns out her cousin is this super handsome Gilbert Blythe look-alike I first met when I was 9... I'm a grown-up 14-year-old now, but he thinks I'm 8 and doesn't bat an eye. It's cool. I don't mind. That much.

Summer 2013

We're NEWLYWEDS

There's nothing like your first year as a married couple and ours is jam-packed with firsts! People don't talk up marriage enough. We're on the road more than we are home, but love every second.

HE BUYS ME A CAMERA

That's right, I only had a point-and-shoot up until this point! Ben puts his bet on me and invests in my dream camera at the time: a Canon 60D. I launch my website and officially start my business on January 1, 2014.

HE PROPOSES

WE SAy OUR VOWS

I shoot my first wedding

It's the coldest day of the year, but that doesn't stop him. The day the ring arrives, he gets in his car and makes the six hour drive south to get on one knee.

Nine weeks after I tell him "I love you" for the very first time, I'm standing in front of him in my wedding dress (bought with a box of silver coins he gave me as an engagement present). We honeymoon in the Bahamas and drive back in a blizzard to our new two bedroom apartment in Minnesota.

I borrow my mom's camera and shoot my very first wedding solo. I have to download pictures in-between the preparation and ceremony so I'll have enough room on my cards, but I'm hooked.

shoot 45 sessions & weddings

We move to Sioux Falls, SD, where my family is from and start building a client base from the ground up. I shoot in AZ, NC, MN, ND and SD.

I shoot my way through the summer and grab every opportunity that comes my way! The business is growing and so is my belly. On October 2014, Cedric Paul was born after a 29 hour labor... it was the hardest and most empowering thing I've ever done to this day.

Memphis, TN is added to this list of wedding locations and I continue shooting all over the midwest. Named in the Top 19 Wedding Photographers in Sioux Falls, SD by Expertise.

We book over 45 sessions and weddings in South Dakota and surrounding states and almost completely book out 2018.
