2014 been a wonderfully beautiful year for us. We found out we were expecting in January, which prompted us to make the very most of our summer while it was still just us two. We celebrated with my sister as she got married in the spring, and then were able to celebrate our own first year of marriage by flying back to the Bahamas in April. We filled our summer with cookouts, camping, photo shoots, traveling, guard drills, picnics, Bible studies, and all the ordinary in between.
In June, we found out our little growing baby was a boy, and held a fun gender reveal party at our apartment with some of our friends. I kept up a regular routine of exercise and learned what I could about pregnancy and birth, while experiencing for the first time all kinds of little reminders that a new life was being formed inside of me.
We shared some losses, like the passing of Ben’s sister, and of my darling grandmother. Meanwhile, I got bigger and bigger, until finally as fall came to a close, I went into labor just three hours after Ben returned from a weekend away with the military. We welcomed our firstborn son into the world, Cedric Paul, the next evening. “Cedric” means Battle Chieftain, and “Paul”, humble. We pray our dear little boy will grow into a mighty warrior for the Kingdom of Heaven, and a strong leader for those on earth. We recognize, though, that the best leaders must know how to follow as well, hence the name “Paul”. We pray he would be emptied of pride, humble before the Lord in all things and throughout his whole life.
As we look into this new year, we truly feel that our cup is filled to overflowing. We have clothes in our closets, food in our kitchen, a roof over our heads, a good job, each other, a new son, and most of all, our Lord God, who has given us all things richly to enjoy.
